UPDATE Since January, 103 wolves have been chased down and shot in the Nelchina Basin region of Alaska, and 11 have been shotgunned from planes in the McGrath area, according to Alaska's Fish and Game Department. These wolves are the first that have been killed under the recently reinstated state-sponsored aerial wolf "control" scheme. Because aerial gunners have up to five days to report their kills, news regarding wolf shooting will be delayed. Please convince the animal advocacy and environmental groups to whom you contribute to endorse a travel boycott to Alaska until the wolf "control" program is cancelled. Petition-signing is meaningless. Pledges to boycott Alaska put the economic screws to the Murkowski administration , and the governor responsible for Alaska's disgraceful aerial wolf-shooting program -- designed to make moose hunting more convenient.
In cooperation with wolf and animal advocacy groups and sanctuaries, as well as individuals, Friends of Animals is continuing to organize "Howl-Ins" for Alaska's wolves. The purpose of a Howl-In is to encourage a tourism boycott of Alaska, and to persuade people to make a pledge not to travel to Alaska, by signing a postcard that's mailed to Gov. Murkowski. On the weekend of December 27 and 28, 2003, Howl-Ins were held in 32 cities across the U.S. and in Canada. Additional events bring the total number of Howl-Ins to 113, which were held in 67 cities, with more scheduled throughout March and April. To date, more than 70,000 Boycott Alaska postcards were mailed to Gov. Murkowski, and many of thousands of phone calls, faxes and letters are also being generated to Gov. Murkowski.

I don't have the time to harp about state and federal policies dealing with the health of wildlife, but I support this to a margin. In all truths i believe that wolves are fantastic and majestic creatures, but is this measure perhaps for their health? Would such legislation have been passed if there was no reason to? Anyways, I won't be attending one, but keep trying. Talk to senators, that's always a good idea.
