And y'all wonder why Aries goes to the Marine Pool functions, despite the fact that Aries isn't even enlisted.
Aries had so much fun today. Aries had to get up at six thirty, yes, that blew like a monkey...however, the rewards were well worth it. Aries and Magna (Aries's younger brother), went to the Pool Function, and the Sargeants took them and several others to the local Naval Air Station. Aries likes it there. His Da, while he was still an active officer, used to take him up there all the time when he was a kid. Anyway.
We headed over to the Marine HQ, where we met the rangemaster for the entire HQ. A real salty dog, y'know? Anyway, Aries got introduced to some seriously sweet weapons.
The M-16, the Beretta 9mm, the M240 Gulf, the SAW, AT4 Rocket Launcher...
*grins.*
Aries was one of five who were the first in the combat simulator, which was what we were after, the crowning achievement. Hell, it puts God-knows-how-many video games to shame. Aaaaand Aries got the M240 Gulf Heavy Machine Gun.
Let Aries tell you something. It's heavy as all else, it's tough to aim, it jams like a motherfucker, and loading it takes a little finesse, which you don't have in a combat zone, but the 'Gulf is Aries's official best friend. The 'Gulf is what Rambo was toting with just one hand, and is physically impossible, really. Aries had it on a bipod and was lying on his stomach. Aries couldn't shoot for shit the first time he got it, aaaaand the mission failed because the team got overrun, but, hey, we were the first in the simulator, first time, first run, of course we were gonna lose. We lived, that was the part we one-upped everybody on.
Second time around, Aries got it down. Of course, his 'Gulf kept jamming because there was something wrong with the ammo belt (yes, Aries got an ammo belt), and until halftime, Aries couldn't shoot. When he did get it fixed, however, Aries carried most of the kills and, well, Aries'll admit it, he went a little crazy. He shredded a bunch of people inside 500 yards, which is M-16 territory. The 'Gulf is used for longer-range shooting, and the gunner is supposed to conserve his ammo for far shots.
Aries is SO going back there, and when he does, he's gonna light a lot of stuff up. Aries was disappointed, since he didn't get a picture taken of him with the 'Gulf, but, next time, next time.
Bang.
